Where & Wear: Brunch at the Promontory
Brunch: more than just a delicious meal, it's a way of life. It manages to somehow be exactly what you need, no matter the occasion. Sometimes it's a giant hungover plate of eggs, French fries and ketchup (try it all together for maximum impact) trading stories about the night before, and sometimes it's a mimosa and heels affair with Instagram worthy plates.
The Promontory, located just on the edge of the UChicago/Hyde Park bubble, offers the perfect backdrop for any aesthetically minded brunch enthusiast. Rustic chic Americana describes both the food and the setting. While the outdoor seating and clean lines of exposed piping are gorgeous, you really go for the #eeeeeats. The offerings are mostly savory as opposed to sweet but always unexpectedly creative and flavorful. Along with classics such as French toast (served with summery grilled peaches and mascarpone cream) and egg Benedict, the Promontory serves more offbeat options as well. The fried chicken sandwich is a mountain of crisp tender meat and "comeback sauce" while the beignets, sprinkled with cashews and topped with pineapple marmalade are a surprisingly delicious blend of crunchy nutty flavor with sweet fluffy dough. The price point may reserve it to a "f*ck finals" celebratory meal or day-after-paycheck high but the downtown feel on the edge of campus is so worth it (think of all the Uber fare you're really saving!)
Mimic the decor and go for sleek easy pieces that are casual yet fashion forward. A silk scarf knotted around the neck is nothing less than charming while a trusty moto jacket ties the whole look together.
