Daily Makeup Routine by Yeju

Depending on how I’m feeling, what the weather is, and what I’m doing, my makeup routine varies from a less than five-minute rush to what can be a half hour to hour of strange experimenting. For all practical purposes (read: time constraints), I finally made an everyday makeup routine, and my life has been so much better since.

I like to divide my routine into distinct parts that have a specific order. I start with brows, then move to skin to cheeks, and then eyes. On days I feel like I have a little more time on my hands, things can get a little crazier, but I'll save that routine for another time.

Brows

Unfortunately, I wasn’t blessed with perfect eyebrows, or really any eyebrow at all. Fortunately, the world of eyebrow pencils and pomades have made my life ineffably better. I start out with brows because adding any moisturizer or primer before brow products makes precision more difficult, making me prone to apply any product chaotically.

For my everyday makeup, I use two products: Benefit's Gimme Brow and Anatasia's Brow Wiz Pencil.

I draw out the shape of my brows starting from the inner bottom outward to create a subtle arch with the pencil. I like this pencil because the intensity of the product is buildable and is easy to clean up if you have a shaky arm like I do. Then, I lightly brush in Gimme Brow wherever I feel spots look empty.

Skin

To hydrate my skin, I alternate between two products: MAC's Prep+Prime Spray and Tarte's Marine Boosting Spray.

Both sprays add light hydration to the skin and work as a simple primer that won’t feel heavy or weigh down other makeup. On days I’m feeling especially tired, I go for the 4-in-1 setting mist because it’s infused with caffeine, which will wake your face up.

I usually spray about an arm’s length from my face and rub the product evenly around my temples, cheekbones, and nose. Avoid the brow area though, since you already finished that area.

On more casual days, I opt for no foundation and just a bit of concealer. My most recent go-to has been Glossier's Stretch Concealer. It's perfect for a no makeup look with low coverage. I apply this evenly around red areas or blemishes with my finger.

There's no need to set this concealer with anything. It's lightweight and doesn't crease heavily.

Cheeks

To bring a little more color and dimension on my face after the foundation, I add just a little bit of Lorac's Color Source Buildable Blush in vivid with my blush brush from Essence.

To highlight, I use the Becca champagne pop highlighter. I sort of pat in the highlighter lightly along the cheekbone, and brush my finger against the tip of my nose. If you want more intense of a highlight, just add more since the application is very buildable.

For everyday makeup, I skip eyeshadow and eyeliner and opt for a simple mascara look.

My most recent go-to mascara has been L'Oreal's Lash Paradise, which is apparently a perfect dupe for Too Faced's Better than Sex mascara. The wand is soft and precise, and lengthens without clumps. I don't use a lash curler with this.

I don't really experiment with crazy colors on a daily basis. I generally stick with light or dusty pink colors. Glossier's Generation G in Like is perfect. The matte finish and light pigmentation fits perfectly with the entire effortless, easy routine.
