How would you describe your personal style?

I would say that my style is really a mixture of a lot of different styles. Sometimes it’s preppy, sometimes it’s a more minimal look. I find that menswear often finds its way into my daily style. I love shopping in the men’s section at Gap or “borrowing” some of my dad’s old dress shirts. No matter what I wear, though, it will always be comfortable and somewhat appropriate for the season.

Where do you find style inspiration?

I take a lot of my style cues from my mother.  Her style in the 90s was very similar to my own. Even now, we will still gravitate towards the same type of clothing, and shoes especially, but I accessorize my outfits differently than she would. Additionally, I love window shopping to get inspiration. I like to get inspiration from places like Topshop and Uniqlo. Because my everyday style doesn’t fit into one specific mold, I find that I often mix and match various pieces I see in stores or online.

Where do you like to shop? I love shopping at Von Maur, Gap, Marshalls, and Nordstrom.  Finding good deals is one of my favorite pastimes, so I make sure to look in the sale areas for hidden gems. I also adore Cole Haan and Ugg for my shoes, and Shinola for my watches.

What is your relationship to fashion? Has it changed over time?

When I was younger, I’d use fashion to try to become a chameleon.  I never wanted to stand out, so I’d wear things like an awful grey sweatshirt every day. Little did I know, that probably brought more attention to me. After I finally got out of that phase, I began to realize that the most important thing about fashion (other than wearing clothes that are in-season) is how it makes you feel.  I understand that my style has to work for me, not against me. Fashion should make me feel comfortable and confident.

Why is fashion important to you?

Simply put, I like to look good.  When my fit is decent, I’m going to feel a lot better than if I’m wearing something that doesn’t look or feel good. Also, your personal appearance is the first thing people notice about you. Fashion is a way of letting your personality shine.
