Fiona Briseño stands out amongst the new generation of Insta-savvy, selfie-skilled, young-in-NYC models for one main reason: she’s gained her 31k Instagram followers through her clothes more than anything else. Yes, she’s a model with enviable looks and impressive bookings, but it’s her striking outfit posts that differentiate her from the rest of the “Instamodels” and instead put her on par with industry insiders. The 17-year-old’s style is characterized by its messy excess, grungy high-low glamour, and clash of oversized layers. It’s unique in its organized carelessness, and dismisses the notion of figure-flattering fits and silhouettes with a big “fuck you”.

Fiona seems to have built her entire brand off this unapologetic philosophy. Unlike many Youtube bloggers and bubblegum Instagram creatives who’ve recently decided that they want to go in a more “edgy” and cool direction, Fiona’s vibe doesn’t seem contrived. In terms of following trends, she actually does not seem to care. She commits fully to her unfiltered, raw persona. There’s no editing of the rainy and chaotic NYC streets she often uses as OOTD backdrops; furthermore, she sports minimal-to-no makeup in these posts so that her clothes truly take center stage. Fiona exudes authenticity, defiance, and confidence through fashion and fashion alone. In an industry saturated with artificiality, her style—and its corresponding attitude—is refreshing.
