Where and Wear: Duck Duck Goat
A sister restaurant of The Girl and The Goat, chef Stephanie Izard created this "reasonably authentic" Chinese restaurant in the West Loop that serves decadent Chinese favorites as well as dim sum brunch. Nestled in the heart of the Fulton Market District, Duck Duck Goat is a trendy joint that offers a wealth of family-style dishes for fans of the small-plate based Chicago staple The Girl and the Goat.
My favorites here were the Chongqing chicken, with the addictive Sichuan peppercorn, and the Jiazo, which are beef short rib and bone marrow pot stickers. I highly recommend being adventurous and ordering whatever looks intriguing- the family style setup makes it easy to find many new favorites.
Duck Duck Goat has a lowlit, youthful vibe, but is unpretentious, so when dressing to pay a visit, I would pair some high waisted trousers with a silky top. For the warmer nights, or for a lazy Sunday brunch, a romper with a denim jacket is another easy and effortless option. This is the place to grab some drinks and fun dishes with friends after work, so a good day-to-night outfit works well for the atmosphere. Make your reservations, though; this popular restaurant has a long list of people clamoring to come in and try it- even on a Monday night, when I went.
