Remedies for 7th Week Blues

Remedies for 7th Week Blues

Everyone at UChicago knows the drill: every week is the worst until the next week magically kicks your ass even harder. So for all those people who are struggling along the week, here are some things I'll be utilizing for this week to survive :')

1) Tunes Before Snooze

I always like to dedicate some time before I sleep to just listen to music - doesn't matter if it's new or old music, or even what genre it is (although I probably wouldn't suggest anything with too aggressive of a beat). All that matters is the act of focusing on something that makes you feel good, especially right before you go to bed. I've found that closing my eyes and allowing the music to envelop me really allows me to calm down and relieves a lot of stress. If you want some musical suggestions, check out my most recent article on Lo-fi Hip Hop here.

2) Walk and Talk

Many people hate physical activity. I understand. A walk, however, is not too physically intensive and the fresh air will do wonders for your mood. Taking a walk outside allows you to free your mind from the work you're doing and will provide blood to areas that that desperately need it after sitting for five hours straight. Try to bring along a friend as well and talk about anything - as long as it isn't school related. There's no point taking a walk to relieve stress if you're just gonna talk about what you're stressing about!

3) Treat Yourself

And finally, my favorite of the remedies: treat yourself. Take some time to do whatever it is that you most like to do; use this time to destress on your own. Whether you take yourself out to grab a nice, quiet meal, watching a few episodes of Netflix with your favorite ice cream, or just taking a long nap, all that matters is taking time to just be on your own. Try your best to ignore any emails or texts; those can wait after you take some time for your own health. If you want tips for where to eat, what to watch, or how to nap effectively, check out the links!
