Artist to Watch: Caroline Polachek
Possible my favourite album of 2019 was released last month, which means we now need to have a discussion about an electro-pop/indie goddess: Caroline Polachek
Her recently released album PANG may be the first under her name, but Caroline Polachek has been around for a little while. Best known for her songwriting credits for artists like Solange and Charlie XCX, as well as her band Chairlift, 2019 has been her first foray into solo music releases. If you had never heard of her until just now, go stream Charlift’s “Crying in Public” immediately.
All year, Caroline Polachek has been releasing dreamy, atmospheric singles in preparation for her debut solo album. My favourite from this group was the ever-relatable “So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings”. I had no idea what was coming, however, until the album released. The best content was definitely not the singles, but rather the newly released songs. “Pang”, “The New Normal” and “Go As A Dream” are standout hits for me, and absolutely deserve your attention.
Fans of artists like Lorde, Clairo and St. Vincent will find a comfortable home within the sounds of Caroline Polacheck’s PANG. Start streaming, start staning, and be thankful we received this gem.
