Louis Vuitton X League of Legends Reveal
The intersection of high-fashion and competitive video games feels INCREDIBLY targeted at me. Apparently there are others, however, because myself alone is not a profitable audience. The announcement of a long-term partnership between storied couture house Louis Vuitton and the worlds most popular video game, League of Legends is an incredibly exciting prospect.
This relationship will produce multiple collaborative efforts. The first is a series of in-game cosmetic products, called “skins” for a series of playable characters. The first, and only to be release at this time, is the above “Louis Vuitton Prestige Edition True Damage Qiyana”. It is an exclusive version of a skin for Qiyana, one of the game’s “champions” designed by the head of women’s fashion at Louis Vuitton. Players have been promised at least 4 more of these skins to be released in the next year.
The second collaboration which has been announced, but with no promotional art released yet, is a Louis Vuitton X League of Legends fashion collection. These clothes will be inspired by the fashion of League of Legends champions and will be available for real-world purchase sometime next year.
In all, I am incredibly excited by this as a precedent for other fashion/videogame collections. While we have already seen Final Fantasy X Prada and Sims X Moschino, League of Legends is significantly more popular and world-renowned than either previous series and could spark interest in more popular collaborations, hopefully at affordable price-points. Until then, I will be playing for in-game tokens to unlock Qiyana’s exclusive Louis Vuitton skin.
