Quad Style: Joseph Wiltzer
Meet Joseph Wiltzer, a third-year Psychology and Comparative Human Development major, with a minor in Media Arts and Design. He is currently the Arts and Entertainment editor for MODA Blog, as well as a student tour guide.

How would you describe your personal style? Do you have a go-to look?
I would say my style is pretty trendy, as much as I hate saying that haha. I am always getting inspired by looks I see in shows, on the street or in media and I try incorporate those elements into daily wear. Considering that, my style is super diverse so I wouldn’t say I have a go to look. One day I might be in patterned button down, the next in a nylon coat and the next in printed joggers. Whatever I think looks good.

Where do you get your style inspiration?
Lots of different places, and its changing all the time. When Queer Eye came out I basically dressed like Tan France all the time, but I moved away from that more recently. More recently, I’ve loved the edgier looks from The Chilling Adventure of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and the cooler, almost futuristic fashion from Maniac.

Any fashion regrets?
None that I can think of. I did go through a phase where I exclusively wore v-neck t-shirts in middle school but my school had a uniform so my bare upper-chest was only visible on weekends.
Where do you like to shop?
I would say my most consistent favourites are Uniqlo, Urban Outfitters and Club Monaco. I can’t say I do much thrifting or have many super niche boutiques I like but I’m not too brand loyal; I’m happy to shop and can find things I like almost anywhere.
What is your relationship to fashion? Has it changed over time?
Both of my parents work in fashion so it has always been relevant in my life. I’ve cared about looking good in my clothes for as long as I can remember. I would say though that I used to play it much safer than I do now. I’m not afraid to mix patterns or colours if I think it looks nice, which I used to not do.
Why is fashion important to you?
The second we see or meet somebody, they immediately make a thousand assumptions and judgments about us. I can’t control that majority of how I look or my personality, so fashion is the way I can influence the image I put out into the world. I think I’m fun and friendly and thoughtful, but my thick eyebrows and big nose can’t communicate that. I want to show people who I am because I am proud of me. Clothes are one way I can do that.
Any favorite and/or least favorite trends?
I love utilitarian and technical trends. Fanny packs from last summer or the emergence of nylon and neoprene now are phenomenal ways to use fashion in ways that are incredibly livable. I despise when guys wear shorts when its below minimum 17˚ Celsius. Nobody needs to see your legs when it’s not warm outside.
