The Chicest Way to Scrub Up

The Chicest Way to Scrub Up

Finally, a blog post for all you pre-meds out there (myself included). If you think that all health-care providers are just incredibly smart (they are smart) nerds who have no concept of fashion, you have sadly misdiagnosed your opinion. Gone are the days of health-care providers being forced to wear only suits and ties or baggy scrubs that fit horribly. The field—and look—of medicine is changing right before our eyes. For one, the population of individuals who practice medicine is increasingly diverse, and with that comes different forms of expression, even through workplace attire. Health-care providers today come from all different backgrounds, colors, identities, orientations, etc., and this, too, can be seen in their fashion choices. While health-care providers still must maintain a professional appearance in the workplace, medical fashion has changed, and continues to evolve. Chances are, you’re not a doctor right now, but here are some brands to keep an eye on until you don your white coat!

FIGS

Okay, FIGS are great. Chances are you’ve scrolled through Instagram and seen a hot doc strutting FIGS. A strong social media following has definitely helped FIGS’ popularity, but it’s not just the attractive doctors that got this brand their start. They are popular for a reason, and it’s because their scrubs look great! With slim fit styles available too, providers do not have to worry about looking shabby when they greet their patients. One downside to FIGS is their price. With potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt to pay off from med school, spending $100 on only one set of scrubs may not be the thing you want to do right away!

Jaanuu

Jaan means “life” in Hindi, and life was given to these scrubs. I had to resist the urge to purchase these just to wear in general. They’re sleek, professional, and definitely fashionable. Jaanuu’s scrubs boast “two-way stretch, antimicrobial finishes, moisture wicking material, and fade & wrinkle resistant material.” Jaanuu also makes lab coats and jackets that are just as attractive as their scrubs. And while their prices are somewhat similar, Jaanuu tends to be slightly cheaper than FIGS!

LifeThreads

LifeThreads is definitely not my first choice, because they have a much, much smaller collection. I also think the fits of their products could definitely be more flattering. The best factor here, though, is by far the price. With scrub pants at about $20, this cuts their prices at almost half of what FIGS’ and Jaanuu’s are. Even though these boys are significantly cheaper than others, their materials are still antimicrobial, antifungal, odor control, and a fluid barrier. Fashion and safety come at no cost to price for LifeThreads.

I still may have several years before I wear my own scrubs, but until then, it doesn’t hurt to peek. Let me know if you have anything you’re looking forward to wearing when you reach your career!
