Studio MODA: Men's What to Wear
With the fast approaching MODA Fashion Show on February 28th, one should definitely start planning their outfit now. Especially since, it can be embarrassing to be underdressed around others who are so dressed up (as one should be at such an event). So, here are some tips, so you can come out and show out (literally as one should).
Color
When I think about the colors that guys tend to gravitate towards when dressing in general, I get so bored. It usually consists of blacks, dark blues, browns, and maybe a dark green here or there. There’s no spice at all. So, when it comes to color I want to see something bold, something a little spicy. At least a pop of color if you intend to go all black. If you are one who would like to be a tad crazy and wouldn’t mind going a little bold, I would suggest wearing a monochromatic suit look with popping reds or oranges. You could even wear a royal blue. The options are practically endless as long as the color looks good on your skin tone (just don’t let the bold choice wash you out). Now, for those with less courage, but want to dip their toe in the water, I would suggest sticking to a comfort zone in terms of the main color (the blacks, blues, browns, etc.). You should then give this “classic” outfit a pop with a bold turtleneck or button down.
Patterns
When it comes to patterns, it can really make or break your outfit completely. It is also one of the easiest ways to bring attention to your outfit. One pattern that shouldn’t be worn is definitely a floral print; it is about time it has died. My fave patterns right consists of animal prints, sheer (not a pattern but still a fav lol), and color blocked shirts. One way to really make a patterned shirt really pop is pairing it with a complementary pant. If you’re bold enough (and stylish enough) try mixing two patterns together. Its guaranteed to be a showstopper (just make sure you ask for some opinions before leaving your house).
Silhouettes
I want to see guys trying more than basic silhouette. You should try a high waisted pant for added dramatic effect, serve us some Harry Styles moments. One could even give us an oversized look (well this definitely depends a on your frame, you don’t want to look to bulky) that allows for a more effortless look and relaxed feel to your fit. Just even giving us a cropped pant would add a more tailored and considerate feel. I just want to see more diversity in the cut of clothes besides the standard suit or button down; this is the perfect time to experiment with your style.
Textures
Playing with textures is a quick way to make your look stand out. Especially with the winter being upon us, I think it is almost necessary for at least someone to show up in a velvet suit. Textures can really become interesting when one starts to mix them. We should start looking past the ordinary cotton or polyester clothing; suede, sequins, and satin could all use some love. Take a risk and pair that black or camel blazer with emerald green satin pants.
Shoes
I want to see boots, boots, and more boots. I am so tired of seeing the typically men’s “dress shoes.” They are actually so boring and basic (and kind of ugly ngl). Not only can a boot add interesting element or an edge to your outfit (depending on the details on the boot), it could possibly also give you a height boost. While I recognized boots are not everyone’s style, another viable option would be a plain white sneaker (we are definitely not talking vans here though).
