Korean Skincare Products for the Windy City

Korean Skincare Products for the Windy City

As the weather gets colder and the wind gets harsher, your skin gets drier and drier. You can't avoid it, but you definitely can help remediate the effects with these 5 Korean skincare products. Korea is a rising hotspot in the fashion and beauty world, taking over and creating new trends in East Asia. One of the main things Koreans focus on is the importance of skincare. Both Korean girls and boys want clear, hydrated skin. And this emphasis can be seen in the plethora of skincare advertisements on the streets, subway stops, and the internet. As a Korean-American, I was slowly introduced to this new world of beauty during high-school, and I fell in love. The many products the Korean beauty world offers are both practical and cute. This post focuses on skincare products that have either become staples in my own beauty regimen or are very popular within Korea. Hopefully these will help protect your skin as the weather gets colder!

1. Face Mask- In Korea, sheet masks are a staple for most girls. You take the mask out of the pack and place it on your face for 30 minutes, letting your skin absorb all the moisture. It's a mini-facial that's quick, easy, and most importantly, cheap. Also, to differentiate themselves from others, stores have been coming up with creative sheet designs like animal, masquerade, and even Halloween. Definitely a selfie moment with your friends! I recommend putting them in the fridge to heighten the moisturizing and cooling effect on the face. I listed several popular options below.

2. Laniege Water Sleeping Mask- This product is definitely one of my holy grails. After washing my face and putting on moisturizer, I spread a thin layer of this gel evenly over my face and sleep with it on. When I wake up, my skin is so plump and hydrated. I also love putting this product on before I get on a plane, since my skin gets so dry after flying for several hours. It is on the pricier side, but I think when considering the amount and effects, it's a splurge worth spending money on!

 3. Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off- Once a week, I recommend exfoliating your skin in order to scrub off the dead skin cells and to let you skin breathe more easily. Skinned is known for using natural ingredients, and this particular mask contains black sugar that acts as a natural exfoliator. Leave it on for around 10-15 minutes and rinse it off with warm water. After using this mask, you will notice that your skin will feel more supple and smooth.

4. Missha First Treatment Essence Mist- Another staple in Korean skincare is mist. Mist should be used after cleanser and toner to add another layer of moisture to your skin. You can also carry this around with you in your purse and reapply whenever your skin gets dry. It can be even used over your makeup! Simply spray the mist and with clean fingers, lightly massage the product so that your skin absorbs all the moisture. This particular product contains a yeast extract that helps with skin balance, moisture, and elasticity.

5. Tonymoly Kiss Kiss Lovely Lip Patch- My lips have definitely dried out due to the wind, but through these packs, I'm able to give them a break and replenish them. I recommend that you lie down for around 15 minutes with the mask on, since they do have a tendency to slide off. They're also great to give as cute, funny gifts for your friends or even as affordable Christmas stocking stuffers!
