Heavenly Bodies, Catholicism and Fashion Intertwine for the 2018 Met Gala

On November 8, the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced the theme for next year's Met Gala, entitled Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. The exhibit will focus on the relationship between Catholic imagination and fashion, examining the influence of the former on the latter. It'll feature about 50 garments and accessories loaned from the Vatican, religious works of art from the Met's own collection, and around 150 pieces from a variety of fashion designers, including Coco Chanel and Cristobal Balenciaga. Heavenly Bodies is expected to be the biggest yet for the Costume Institute, spanning 58,600 square feet across three galleries.

The Met Gala is perhaps the most-anticipated fashion event every year. Held on the first Monday of May every year since 1946, it serves as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute's yearly fashion exhibit, the most recent one being "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art of the In-Between."

Next year, it will be on May 7, 2018, and the exhibit will be open to the public on May 10. Additionally, Anna Wintour will be hosting alongside Rihanna, Amal Clooney, and Donatella Versace, three women known for their incredible style and influence in the fashion world.
