2018: The Year of Being Disappointed in Kylie

2018: The Year of Being Disappointed in Kylie

Besides the constant speculation of her pregnancy, Kylie Jenner has been unable to escape to spotlight since last year. While I'm still completely disappointed that Kim didn't reveal the Kylie news on her 25 Days of Christmas series on her Instagram, I still have yet another reason to be annoyed with the family I can't seem to get enough of.

Kylie Cosmetics released a line of natural-hair brushes in December of 2017, but it really looks like the backlash of the product might leave a bitter taste in the beauty community far into 2018. With 16 new brushes with a metallic finish, Kylie Cosmetics set out a line that Kylie later compared to the likes of Artis and Kevyn Aucoin brushes. The brush set - including a comprehensive set of large to small brushes for the entire face - retails for an eyebrow-raising $360.

Packaged in the same color scheme, a faux-leather carrier holds all 16 brushes in a clear plastic divider. From multiple reviews of make-up artists and influencers, it seems that the brushes are disappointing for several reasons. First, the brush quality just don't seem to live up to the price tag. In fact, Kylie responded to her fans' concerns about the pricing, promising that this wasn't too out of the way. People think otherwise.

Besides that, the actual usage seems less than ideal. Synthetic brushes are built to apply makeup evenly, but these natural-hair brushes don't necessary do that. Added onto that, the packaging clearly feels and looks cheap. Apparently it's fairly comparable to dollar store kids makeup for the packaging.

It seems that it might be best to avoid this product until Kylie releases something more worth the hype her stuff always gets.
