Music Mondays: The Struts

Music Mondays: The Struts

Feeling sick of millennial minimalism? Yearning for a return to a more decadent, less fraught time? Never mind the fact that, when applied to 70's rock'n'roll, both of these descriptors are vast generalizations—but let's return to the era of swaggering classic rock with the Struts, who have apparently been plucked straight out of London's late-20th century counterculture. Their music is for the days when you're wearing your favorite boots, just a touch more eyeliner than usual, and have a certain swagger to your step (one might even call it a strut).

Their debut album, Everybody Wants, is classic rock shaded with leading man Luke Spiller's insouciant drawl. All of them vibrate with an exuberant, aggressive energy and make the listener want to put on their favorite blue and gold biker jacket and snarl flirtatiously at the (nonexistent) camera. For that particular image, check out the music video for their hit "Could Have Been Me," or cue up their rollicking first track, "Roll Up" for a taste of the band at its brash, glittering zenith.
