Bye Bye, Barneys New York
The world of luxury retail fashion shed a tear earlier this month after the announcement of Barneys New York’s closing. It’s true: the chain of only seven retail stores will be closing their doors for good. For the seemingly 1% of people who could actually afford to shop at Barneys New York, this may be heartbreaking news. For those of us who tend to shop on the cheaper side, good news! Everything in the store must go. The stores’ new owner, Authentic Brands Group, which owns such brands as Sports Illustrated and Nautica, is set to liquidate nearly $500 million worth of designer goods. Before you get excited, however, don’t rush in to take advantage of any bargains. The average discount is ringing in at 5% off retail price. Even though they have to let go of their stores, they aren’t letting go of their price tags. The luxury stores already closed their Chicago location located on Oak street a few months ago after filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy, and they’re set to close their outlet location in Rosemont now that the company will be gone for good.
“Goodbuys, then goodbye!” is the slogan the company is sticking with during their store-closing sales. Hard to believe any of these products are a “good buy” at only 5% off ticket price. Nonetheless, here are some of the more reasonable products to get your hands on before saying goodbye to Barneys New York for good.
Items in slideshow:
5% off Saturdays NYC long-sleeve t-shirt, $57
5% off Remi Relief “Locals Only” t-shirt, $133
5% off Hotel 1171 x Barneys New York track pants, $142.50
5% off Theory track jacket, $284.05
5% off Canada Goose Bomber, $783.75
5% off Alex Mill Jumpsuit, $190
5% off Eytys Halo sneakers, $446.50
Don’t get too excited, though. You won’t be seeing any brand under the LVMH family (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy) syndicate. Somehow they were able to miss out on all the “great” deals. Regardless, whether you’ve been shopping there for years, or your using their closing sales as the perfect excuse to treat yourself, for now, it’s bye bye, Barneys.
