Have you Been Showering Wrong this Whole Time?

Have you Been Showering Wrong this Whole Time?

School has barely started, but there’s already one thing I miss about home: a nice shower. Something about the yellowed-plastic tub, hairballs in the drain, and poor water pressure has just not been doing it for me. Some of you might be thinking, “So what? It’s a shower! Get in, get out!” but I beg to differ. Showering is supposed to be a cleansing experience not just for your body, but for your mood. It’s supposed to be a reset. So I’m setting out to make my dorm-life showering experience more luxurious. Here’s how you can too:

Music

This one might seem a little obvious to a lot of you. However, I’ve found that I’ve stopped listening to music while I shower, and that makes my showers significantly less fun. Your music selection is a great way to make the most out of your shower. If you’re showering in the morning, put on some upbeat bops to get you in a great mood for the day, and if you’re showering before bed, play slower music to get you ready to fall asleep.

Eucalyptus

Putting a plant in your shower might seem a little bit much, and it’s not really a great option if you use a communal shower (unless you want to carry a eucalyptus plant around, in which case more power to ya!). But if you live in a suite-style dorm or in an apartment off campus, convince your roommates to pop on over to Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods and buy a bunch of eucalyptus. Not only will it make you feel extremely luxurious, it also helps to cleanse your sinuses and improve your breathing, which we all need at this point in the year.

Fancy Body Wash

Invest in a shower gel that smells magical to you. I know spending north of $20 on fancy body wash when you could be spending $2 on a bar of Dove soap is a little crazy, but if you’re in the mood for some retail therapy, do it. It’s worthwhile, I promise. Looking for recommendations? My favorites are Aesop’s Geranium Leaf Body Cleanser, Glossier’s Body Hero Daily Oil Wash, and Fresh’s Hesperides Grapefruit Bath & Shower Gel.

Mix it Up!

Trying new products is always fun, and it will definitely make your shower experience more exciting. Whether that’s a new hair mask, scrub, or body lotion, find things that make you feel like you’re taking good care of yourself. My current obsession is the Not Your Mother’s Matcha and Apple Blossom Nutrient Rich Hair Masque—it smells SO good, makes my hair silky-smooth, and is super affordable.
