Galentine’s Day is Here to Make Your Week Better

Galentine’s Day is Here to Make Your Week Better

As Valentine’s Day is approaching, couples hurry to make last-minute reservations at restaurants they can’t afford and singles stock up on their favorite Ben & Jerry’s pints. But—hear me out—it doesn’t have to be this way! This is where Galentine’s Day comes in. Popularized by Parks & Recreation, Galentine’s Day is a way to celebrate your incredible friends and shower them with love. It doesn’t have to just be female friends, anyone you consider to be one of your gals or best pals is welcome.

But what do you even do on Galentine’s Day? Good question. You can pretty much do anything that will serve as stress relief for you and your friends. Here are some options to get your creative juices flowing:

Food Marathon

Almost everyone has a restaurant hit list. Galentine’s Day is the perfect time to eat the incredible food you’ve been obsessing over. Go to a restaurant where you can share a lot of small plates, and don’t leave without ordering dessert!

Axe Throwing

Axe throwing is the hottest new trend for bonding. First, you and a group of friends get paired with a trained axe thrower to teach you proper safety protocol, and then you get to throwing! Many venues will break your group into two and start an axe throwing competition, which will be loads of fun and full of many nail-biting moments for your crew.

Boozy Brunch

Some might think this fits under the umbrella of Food Marathon, but I beg to differ. Hot take: make your own boozy brunch! Come up with fun cocktail ideas with your friends, or take the well-worn route and make some bangin’ mimosas. Round out your brunch with an avocado toast bar, pancakes, and baked goods. If you need some inspo, Alison Roman’s Nothing Fancy has been killing it in bookstores this season. Grab a copy and make The Dip (or just find the New York Times recipe here). It’ll leave you speechless.

Thrifting

Who doesn’t love shopping and helping the environment at the same time? Okay, so “helping the environment” might be a bit of an exaggeration, but at least you’re not harming it! Thrifting is a great way to find fun, original pieces that you won’t see worn by every other person on campus.

Pottery

The last time I took a pottery class was probably in elementary school, but it doesn’t have to be that way! Pottery is so much fun, and getting something special to take home with you is extra awesome. A lot of pottery classes are oriented towards children, but you and your girl gang can definitely make them your own.
