UChicago Students' Favorite Food Trucks
As the weather warms up and UChicago students come out of hibernation, so do our favorite food trucks! We all eye those colorful trucks on a lazy day on the quad, but wonder which ones will really satisfy our cravings. From tasty mini donuts to Asian street-food revamped, there are so many trucks to choose from. And we have all the info you need on our favorite trucks.
The Food: If you're looking for a twist on your favorite classic sandwiches like grilled choose or a BLT, this is your truck! In addition, to the absolutely amazing sandwiches made with fresh ingredients everyday, they also offer addicting fries topped with rosemary, truffle aioli, or spicy sesame aioli.
Popular Items: Spinach and Onion Grilled Cheese paired with Truffle Fries.
Price Range: Sandwiches range from $8 to $12. Sides range from $3 to $5.
The Food: Delicious New York style pizza with an amazing crust. Serving size is a small avuncular pizza cut in half. In addition the the food, this truck is super quick and reliable if you're in a hurry!
Popular items: Third-year student Anika Tripathi tells us that the margherita pizza is the closest she can get to NYC pizza so far from home.
Price range: Pizzas range from $7 to $12. Sides range from $3 to $4.
The Food: Vietnamese and Thai inspired, this truck offers a mix of traditional and new takes on Vietnamese favorites such as banh mi sandwiches and rice bowls. The truck also sells tacos, spring rolls, crab rangoon, and chicken satay.
Popular Items: First year student Saisha Talwar tell us that her favorite items is the Sloppy Thai rice bowl with ground chicken, basil, bell peppers and a side of pickled salad.
Price Range: Bowls and sandwiches range from $7 to $9. Sides range from $3 to $5.
The Food: Pierogi wagon provides authentic Polish dumplings, which will fill you up and satisfy your taste buds.
Popular items: Second year student Fiona Fong tells us that her favorite item is the classic potato and cheese pierogi.
Price Range: 6 pierogis for $9 or 9 for $12.
The Food: Fluffy, delightful, mini. Not puppies but donuts. Beaver's donuts is the perfect pick-me up after draining classes. Serving delicious mini donuts with a long list of delicious toppings, coffee, and seasonal milkshakes, Beaver's has everything you need to brighten your day.
Popular Items: My personal favorite is the box of 9 donuts (yes, nine for myself), topped with chocolate sauce and sprinkles.
Price Range: A box of 6 donuts with classic toppings $4, add $1 for gourmet toppings such as S'mores or Nutella Dream. Medium coffee for $3 and milkshakes for $5.50.
The Food: Good for more than just a punny name, NaanSense is inspired by authentic home-style Indian food. This truck wraps with traditional naan made from made from scratch every day and all natural ingredients. Both filling and incredibly flavorful, NaanSense is satisfying and and especially great option for vegetarians! Sides include more naan, rice, chutney, and cooling yogurt
Popular Items: The fastest selling item on this menu is the Butter Chicken naan wrap consisting of fragrant jasmine rice and vegetables.
Price Range: Wraps range from $7 to $9 and sides range from $3 o $5.
The Food: Piko Street Kitchen's style is asian street food with a modern twist to fit the streets of Chicago. In addition to your classic rice bowl, Piko sells tacos, boas, and sliders. The best part of these already flavor packed parcels is the signature homemade marinades and sauces. In addition these fan favorites, Piko also sells edamame, chips and salsa, thai iced tea, and mochi ice cream!
Popular Items: Second year Josef Omar tell us that his favorite meal includes three Bulgogi Ribeye sliders and mochi ice cream.
Price Range: 3 tacos/ sliders/ bao range between $8.50 and $9.75 depending on the protein. Rice bowls range from $9.25 to $10.50 depending on the protein. Sides range from $2 to $4.50.
The Food: Cheesie's is exactly what it sounds like. Everything cheesy you could ever wish for... and then some more cheese. Just when you though grilled cheese could get any better, this truck made mac and cheese grilled cheese. Yes. Mac and cheese inside of a grilled cheese. In addition to this fan favorite, Cheesie's serves the classic grilled cheese, caprese sandwiches, quesadillas, chicken tenders, and cheese fries.
Popular Item: The Mac, duh.
Price range: Sandwiches range from $5 to $9.50. Sides are $5 each.
