Chicago Concerts to Get Pumped About This November
With concert venues ranging from intimate to gargantuan, a diverse music scene, and a reputation as an important stop for touring artists, Chicago truly has something to offer for any live music fan looking to jam out. Whether you’re into folk, indie rock, or hip hop, you’re sure to find dozens of concerts to look forward to in Chicago this month. Here’s a few that we here at MODA are particularly excited about:
The Weeknd // Nov 6, United Center, $100+ Abęl Makkonen Tesfaye, known by his stage name The Weeknd, went from YouTube obscurity to top of the charts in a matter of years. His second studio album, Beauty Behind the Madness, came out in August 2015, and this November you can see him live when he makes a stop in Chicago on The Madness Fall Tour.
Hippo Campus // Nov 7, Subterranean, $12-14 As a Minnesota native, I can’t resist giving a shout out to a band from back home. Hippo Campus, an indie rock band made up of four St. Paul teens, plays clean, simple, joyful tunes. Check out this concert if you’d like to get a little taste of summer, even at the beginning of November.
Mac DeMarco // Nov 7, Metro, $25 Mac DeMarco is everybody’s favorite weirdo, carefree, chill-out slacker-rocker. Though his show at the Metro has been sold out for months, a very dedicated fan might still be able to hunt down an elusive ticket.
Raury // Nov 12, The Chop Shop, $14-16 This 19 year old got noticed for his folksy hip-hop-soul sound and came out with his first studio album, All We Need, this October. Raury’s got opinions, and he’s all about using his music as a platform to say what he believes. Check him out at The Chop Shop & 1st Ward in Wicker Park on November 12th.
BØRNS // Nov 14, Double Door, $15 Garrett Borns, under the stage name BØRNS, first made his appearance in 2014 with his debut single “10,000 Emerald Pools.” Now, in the wake of his newly-released album Dopamine, BØRNS is touring the US. Give him a listen when he stops at the Double Door.
Fuzz // Nov 20, Thalia Hall, $15 Fuzz is made up of three California dudes: Ty Segall (drums/vocals), Charlie Moothart (guitar/vocals), and Chad Ubovich (bass). Their sound is reminiscent of mid-to-late 60’s garage rock, but with a heavy twist. Fuzz’s Thalia Hall concert is a must-see for any rock fans.
Grimes // Nov 24 & 25, Metro, $34+ Claire Boucher, known by her stage name Grimes, has been essentially inactive since her 2012 release of Visions. This fall holds exciting new developments for the experimental pop artist; in addition to the slated release of her fourth studio album, Art Angels, Grimes is touring. Check her out at the Metro when she stops in Chicago at the end of November.
Car Seat Headrest // Nov 29, Schubas, $12 After years of releasing albums only on Bandcamp, this low-key, lo-fi indie band released its Matador Records debut album, Teens of Style, at the end of October. Following the release, the band is taking on Europe and America. The tour, of course, makes an obligatory stop in Chicago. See Car Seat Headrest live at Schubas on November 29th.
