Making the Most of Movember

Making the Most of Movember

It's that time of year again, gents. That's right, I'm talking about Movember, also known as No-Shave November. Let's be real for a second. We've all had that point in our lives where, upon seeing the first patchy signs of facial hair, we consider growing out a mustache or, genes permitting, a full beard. I know I've definitely been there. With that said, if you plan on adventuring into the world of facial hair, here are a couple things you should know. 1. Genes

Alright, let's get this out of the way. The potential for your facial hair growth depends primarily on your genes. There are varying opinions as to who specifically you get your facial hair genes from - your dad, your paternal grandfather, your maternal grandfather, and so on. The point is, if it's in your genes, you've got a headstart.

2. Patience

Growing out your 'stache and beard is a time-consuming process. If you're like me, and you usually shave on a regular basis, there are certain hairs that haven't had a chance to grow at all. These hairs are going to be lagging behind the rest in terms of growth, so even within a month, you probably won't see much results from them. The ideal time period to wait before you get the first glimpse of your facial hair's full potential is roughly three months, give or take. That's an entire quarter, so you definitely need to mentally prepare yourself for the awkward growth phase, when your facial hair just isn't going to look great.

3. Training

As your whiskers grow out, they're going to stick in all sorts of different directions. To prepare your 'stache for a neater look, you might want to pick up some mustache wax. Rub a little bit into your mustache, and comb it outwards. Doing so repeatedly will eventually train your hairs, making them want to lie down in the direction you've combed them. The Beard Baron offers a wide selection of natural mustache waxes, with a variety of scents. Pick your poison, and you'll be sniffing heaven all day long.

4. Care

You've done it! You've grown out a luscious 'stache and a full, thick beard. What's the next step? Well, after all that effort you put into growing it out, it's time to take care of your facial hair. Continue your styling routine with mustache wax, and don't forget to add a couple drops of beard oil into your beard to soften it. This will prevent the skin underneath your beard from drying up. Beard oils generally include natural ingredients such as jojoba oil, Vitamin E, and grapeseed oil. These oils will nourish your beard, keeping it healthy and shiny, instead of brittle and dry. This beard oil from Shear Revival is vegan friendly, gluten free, and has a sweet, woodsy scent, so that's just icing on top of the cake!

By now, we're a full two weeks into the month, so if you haven't started your Movember journey yet, you've still got time. So be bold, take a chance, and let it grow!
