Rihanna's Anti World Tour: A Must-See!
Imagine thousands of screaming fans. The antiticipation rises. Suddenly you hear her voice in the midst of all the chaos. She arises, in a beautiful white leotard, flowing jacket, and thigh high boots, belting an emotional rendition of "Stay." Rihanna is in the building y'all.
I had the great experience of spending part of my spring break at the Anti World Tour in the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. Although I had missed the opening act Travis Scott (who Rihanna has been dating for the past few months), I heard he was a great appetizer for the main event. But, and no exaggeration here, you could feel the buzz and excitement of the crowd once Rihanna came out. It was a sight to behold, with thousands of cameras and faces full of tears and smiles shining upon the Barbadian singer.
Most of the concert consisted of her performing songs from her platinum-certified album Anti, such as "Desperado," "Consideration," "Woo," and fan-favorite "Work" featuring Canadian rapper Drake. In between songs from her new album, she performed classic hit songs such as "Love the Way You Lie (Part II)," "Where Have You Been," "Umbrella," "Man Down," and "Diamonds." Some acts featured impressive dancers that could conform their bodies to the beat and have fun with the music. A memorable part of the concert was when Rihanna noticed a fan near the front row who had gotten an Anti tattoo, commenting "What the f---, no way!" and giving the loyal Rihanna Navy fan backstage passes.
Anti primarily focused on more R&B and pop genres, with an element of soul and dancehall. Most lyrics in the album involve ideas of self-love, reassurance, and romance, with producers using a more minimalistic structure. The album peaked within the top 10 albums on over 25 national album charts. Her lead single "Work" featuring Drake peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and became Rihanna's 14th number one single.
If you want a good time with catchy music, hilarious interjections, creative stage layouts, impressive dances - go to Rihanna's Anti World Tour! She is scheduled to come to Chicago's United Center on April 15th. You can buy tickets from Ticketmaster here and see the full link for her tour here.
Two of my best friends and I lovin' RiRi!
