Skincare Detective: Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate
The skincare industry is full of big claims. Bold statements like "instantly improves luminosity", or "eliminates redness" pull you in, and often you end up splashing the cash for something that doesn't do any of those things. So, MODA is road testing skincare cult favorites so you don't have to. We'll examine the claims, and then put them to the test... First up is Kielh's Midnight Recovery Concentrate, a skincare serum so hyped it has its own dedicated shelf in the Heathrow Airport Kiehl's store....
What are the claims?
Kiel's claims...
A replenishing nighttime facial oil with distilled botanicals that visibly restores the appearance of skin by morning.
- Regenerates, restores, and replenishes skin for smoother, healthier skin
- Works with the skin's natural nocturnal activity - when skin is most receptive to repairing itself from daily aggressors - to dramatically restore skin
- 99.8% naturally-derived and paraben-free oil for face
- A customer favorite
So 99.8% natural is good, and the product has a lovely lavender smell. Some bloggers claim the smell actually helps you sleep better. And while I've been trying this product out first week, I've been far too jet lagged to notice an improvement in my sleep pattern.
Day 1-3
I first tried this on an airplane since I bought it in the tax-free part of the airport (gotta save cash where you can, right?). Since I was embarking on a 9-hour stint in nothing buy recycled air, I figured it'd be a good time to test this product's nourishing abilities.
My skin did feel better than normal once I'd landed in Chicago, and a nasty pimple I had on my chin was significantly reduced.
Day 4-7
I've noticed a lot more luminosity in my skin (except around my nose for some reason, maybe I'll apply more product there). Also, whereas before my skin would be crying out for moisturizer straight after cleansing, it can now last a lot longer without getting all tight and uncomfortable. I'm gong to take this as a sign of more underlying moisture in my skin, and a good sign!
Day 8-14
This product is wonderful. I haven't noticed my rosacea totally fading away, but my skin has a much smoother texture and feels less dried out by Chicago's bitter winds. I've also noticed fewer pimples gracing my face, which is always a huge bonus. Plus, I'm definitely sleeping better with the aromatic lavender in this serum.
Is it worth it?
While this product is pricey, it is a gem. Between smoothing out my skin and helping me get a better night's sleep, the splurge is worth it. I've been using it for a while and can hardly see a dent in the product, so it seems to have the lasting power to justify the price. This has been cult for years, and I now see why. Go treat yo' self!
