4 Bright Lipsticks to Try at the MODA Show
With all the model's sporting edgy runway outfits and students dressed their best, the MODA Fashion Show on February 26 at Morgan Manufacturing (buy tickets here) is the perfect event to try out a daring new lipstick. Here are four of my favorite bright lip colors.
MAC Vegas Volt ($17)
A hybrid between coral and orange, this lipstick gives lips an opaque hue after two applications. This a more editorial color that tends to fade pretty easily, so be sure to bring it with you for touch ups. I also find this formula a bit drying, so be sure to layer lip balm underneath and even dab a little bit on top to prevent chapping.
MAC Impassioned ($17)
This is a bright, fuchsia that looks great both applied with full coverage or dabbed on the lips to look more like a stain. I find this color less drying and more wearable than Vegas Volt, so it's the perfect color for those looking to branch away from light pinks or classic reds. Both Impassioned and Vegas Volt are MAC's amplified formula and carry the traditional vanilla scent of all their lipsticks.
Maybelline SuperStay 14 Hour Lipstick Ravishing Rouge ($9)
This is one of my favorite red lipsticks because of it's consistency and long lasting color. Although this lipstick remains slightly tacky after application (a feeling I actually like because it's easy to tell when the color has warn off), unlike the two MAC lipsticks, I don't find it drying. The color is a classic red, with slight blue undertones. I find that it lasts for hours, although I've never worn it for 14 straight, and it remains on my lips even if I'm eating or drinking. When it does begin to fade, it leaves a pretty and fairly pigmented stain on the lips. It does have a pretty strong scent, something between fruity and candylike, so make sure to smell it before purchasing!
L'Oréal Colour Riche British Red ($8)
One of the most loved drugstore reds, this L'Oréal lipstick is the most moisturizing of the group. The color applies smoothly and opaquely in two swipes, and it is the perfect orange-based red. This one, like most L'Oréal Lipsticks, smells like the traditional lipsticks you would find in your mom's makeup drawer although I don't find the smell lingers after application like the SuperStay lipstick. Unlike the Maybelline lipstick, however, this one smears when I drink or eat, so make sure to bring a mirror compact just in case!
